ESG is creeping into client conversations
28.09.2021The lack of an obligation for UK advisers to specifically ask clients about their sustainability preferences is among the consequences of the country’s departure from the EU.
The Financial Conduct Authority confirmed there is currently no specific requirement to include questions on environmental, social and governance investing in the advice process.
However, the concept of ESG investing is hard to deny. Requests from clients for ESG investments is on the rise.
Jamie Smith, financial adviser at Foster Denovo highlights that when speaking with clients there is still confusion on what ESG investing actually means.
Smith shares his thoughts on what adviser’s should do to combat this confusion.
“Our role as advisers is to educate our clients about the options available to them … it’s only when clients understand this that we can then start to ask for their views and discuss which options may be most suitable for them.
